Grand Prix of Portugal

Mira, Portugal

27 - 29 September 2024

Mira

Located in the central coastal region of Portugal, Mira is nestled in the Gândara region, whose regional identity takes pride in keeping alive in gastronomy, landscape, and a unique culture.

With accommodation options and just a few kilometers away from central reference cities such as Aveiro, Coimbra, and Figueira da Foz, Mira ensures a pleasant stay in harmony and direct interaction with nature.

Its main feature, enchanting those who seek it, is being a territory with a benchmark environmental quality (Mira Beach proudly holds the Blue Flag award since its initiation in 1987, and Poço da Cruz Beach since 2007).

Alternating between beaches, lagoons, estuaries, forests, and agricultural fields, which can be safely explored on foot or by bicycle, through a Cycle and Pedestrian Track spanning over 30 km and six pedestrian routes, all in close communion with nature, its people, and the cultural heritage passed down through generations.

Along the coastline, you will find beaches with vast sandy stretches and lagoons, ideal for swimming and water sports. Among these, Mira Beach stands out with its Barrinha, a village previously known as Palheiros de Mira, still featuring some of the old palafitic wooden constructions, including the Chapel of Our Lady of Conceição, the Palheiros de Mira building – Museum and Tourist Office, and the palafitic bungalows of the Municipal Camping Park.

On Mira's coast, you can also witness an ancient fishing practice, "arte-xávega" or net fishing, with peculiar half-moon-shaped boats, searching for sardines and horse mackerel. This activity, besides being a natural and magnificent sensory spectacle where man and art intertwine, allows the purchase of fresh catch from the coast, making it unmistakable on the dining table.

Inland from the coastline, there are dunes with diverse vegetation. In these areas, you can observe numerous bird species wandering through the fine, white sands of the beach or along the boardwalks that extend through the dunes.

At night, after a magnificent day at the beach or exploring the forests, savouring grilled fish with smashed potatoes or a fresh fish stew brings back the taste and knowledge of traditional kitchens. A distinctive cuisine deeply connected to the sea and the land.In a constant effort to provide experiences to visitors, there is also a series of cultural and sports events taking place throughout the year. Therefore, there is nothing better than taking a few days to discover and live in the Municipality of Mira, immersing yourself in nature!
