Friday, 15 November, DOHA (Qatar): Cyrille Lemoine and Mickael Poret made it a double French celebration after winning World Slalom titles in Runabout and Ski in a spectacular night show under spotlights on Doha Bay.
Lemoine, who earlier in the day won heat 1 of the Aquabike Qatar Grand Prix, beat countryman Jeremy Perez with Mickael Poret defeating Ski heat 1 winner, Portugal’s Tiago Sousa.
Eight riders in each category lined up for a best of three run knockout competition on a 100 metre five-pin slalom course in front of the capital’s spectacular Corniche, with Freestylers Rok and Nac Florjancic and Aleksandar Petrovic thrilling the crowds with some breath taking aerrial acrobatics before the two finals.
Lemoine’s route to the final saw him ease past Kuwait’s Mohamad Al Baz and then take out Italy’s Mattia Fracasso, winning both heats with two straight wins, and going on to win the all-French final encounter by the same margin.
Perez beat countryman Teddy Pons in his opening heat and then came through a tough semi-final to win two-one, beating Poland’s Andrzej Wisniewski who knocked out the defending World Slalom Champion Yousef Al Abulrazzaq in his quarterfinal.
Poret had to go the distance against Slovenia’s Pija Sumer in his opening heat after being DQ’d in the second run for a jump start, eventually winning two-one and then comfortable beating Italy’s Alberto Monti.
Sousa eased into the final beating Polish youngster Dawid Michalak and then Croatia’s Slaven Ivancic, who took third overall, but was outgunned in two close runs in the final by Poret.
In the third and fourth placed shoot-outs Andrzej Wisniewski beat Mattia Fracasso and Slaven Ivancic beat Alberto Monti.
