Sunday, 29 September, LIUZHOU (China): Valerio Calderoni is out of next week’s Freestyle Grand Prix of China in Liuzhou after breaking his shoulder and fracturing a bone in his hip in a motocross accident.
The Italian freestyle ace from Rome was training with good friend and seven times MX World Champion Tony Cairoli when he lost control of the bike. “We always train together at our home track ‘Malagrotta’ when he [Tony] is in Italy. At the landing of a jump I loose the front of the bike and flip high in the air and crash hard on my right shoulder and body.” said Calderoni.
The injury is likely to side line the 2009 and 2011 World Champion for the next couple of months ending any hopes of trying to win back his title, but he is hoping to be able to recover in time to compete in the final round of the season at the Abu Dhabi Water Sports Festival in December.
Calderoni is currently in third place overall in the points table behind Slovenian brothers Rok and Nac Florjancic after a solid start to the season finishing second in Sanya and third in Viverone.
