Monday, 28 July: World Championship leader Jeremy Perez claimed his first major title of the year, winning the Runabout GP1 European Championship in Mirandela, Portugal.
The 27-year-old from Lambesc in France is the inform rider in Runabout, winning the Italian GP in Milan in June to go to the top of the World Championship standings and last weekend winning two out of three heats to claim the European title from Italy’s Giusepe Greco and Antonio D’Arma.
In Ski GP1 Portugal’s Tiago Sousa successfully defended his European crown, the Barcelos resident dominating the three heats to score maximum points, with Spain’s Nacho Armillas second and Norway’s Stian Schjetlein in third.
In the Ladies division Ski GP2 Spain’s Sandra Fernandez Rodriguez took top honours from Italy’s Marta Sorrentino and Portugal’s Rita Leandro Sousa.
The results for Perez and Sousa look likely to extend their points leads in the overall World Rankings, with the next round of the UIM-ABP Aquabike Class Pro World Championship taking place in Ibiza on 5-7 September.
