Thursday, 9 January: Jeremy Perez, Alberto Monti, Pija Sumer and Rok Florjancic head into 2014 ranked number one in the World in their respective categories following the publication at the end of the 2013 season of the prestigious UIM-ABP Aquabike World Rankings.
The accolade of being recognised as the World number one is based on all performances, with points allocated for overall results achieved by riders in UIM sanctioned and recognised competition in World, Continental, National and Regional Championships and International Ordinary races.
The overall World Rankings are collated based on results supplied by the respective National Authorities and operates on a ‘weighted’ points basis relating to the specific Championship and the overall event not heat result.
The flagship UIM-ABP Aquabike World Championship carries the highest number of points achievable with an overall win at an event earning 400 points, a Continental event 200 points, a National or International ordinary event 100 points and 50 points in a Regional event, with points awarded on a sliding scale to the 30th placed rider.
In 2013 205 riders from 19 countries are recognised in the World Rankings which highlight the importance and the value to a rider who competes in a wide variety and number of different competitions.
In the sport’s Blue Riband categor, Runabout GP1, France’s Jeremy Perez, who finished third overall in the World Championship, tops the table of 86 riders from 15 countries ahead of 2013 World Champion, Kuwaiti Yousef Al Abdulrazzaq and runner-up, Frenchman Cyrille Lemoine.
Of the 79 riders from 11 countries in Ski GP1 it is Italy’s Alberto Monti who heads the Rankings with Portugal’s Tiago Sousa in second and France’s World Champion Mickael Poret in third. In the Ladies division World Champion and runner-up, Slovenia’s Pija Sumer and Italy’s Marta Sorrentino, head the standings of 17 riders from five countries, with China’s Li Qian Qian third.
Freestyle is the only category of the World Rankings that mirrors the World Championship results with Slovenian riders Rok and Nac Florjancic in first and second spots ahead of Serbia’s Aleksandar Petrovic, out of 23 riders from nine countries.
