Wednesday, 11 June: With just two events done in 2014 Slovenia’s Freestyle aces Rok and Nac Florjancic are tightening their grip on the top two slots in the title race as they continue to scale new heights in performance each time they take to the water.
As good as some of the competition is, the brothers from Maribor are on a different level and, in the 10 Grand Prix that they have both been at have locked out the top two tiers of the podium eight times, with Rok unbeaten in 20 starts.
The two have simply dominated on the UIM-ABP tour since their debut at the last race of the season in Liuzhou, China in 2011, Nac taking the World title in 2012, Rok last year. Rok sits at the top of the standings with a maximum 100 points, Nac on 80 their nearest challenger Italy’s Valerio Calderoni on 55.
For Nac the task of trying to usurp his elder brother is as daunting as it is for others to match either of them, with Nac scoring consistently above 80 points, Rok casually scoring in the mid-nineties.
Rok, at 29, is in a class of his own and there is an air of expectation each time he goes out and each time he delivers, demonstrating immense power, versatility and skill in all the tricks he unveils, often leaving spectators spellbound.
Noticeably, his rivals always gather to watch him perform and are the first to applaud and praise on his return to the pontoon. How to beat him? Someone suggested kidnapping him, 'sounds like a good idea' said Nac!
