MENARD CRUISES HOME TO WIN HEAT 1

Sunday, 4 October, LIUZHOU (China): Jennifer Menard made it clear that she is not going to give up her title without a fight, taking her second win of the season with victory in heat 1 of the Grand Prix of China.

The French Champion led the front line of five and nine-rider field nailing the start to lead at the first mark and the end of lap and was unchallenged throughout and running out a comfortable winner.

Beatriz Curtinhal lost time and a place at the start but clawed back third place on lap 2 passing Kylie Ellmers and then set about chasing down championship leader Emma-Nellie Ortendahl, overhauling the tiring young Swede on lap 7.

New Zealander Kylie Ellmers was a solitary figure in fourth at the chequered flag but given a one lap penalty for missing a buoy, dropping her to eighth, Jonna Borgstrom moving up from seventh to take fourth place ahead of Chinese rider Yue Nixin, Marta Sorrentino and Sandra Fernandez.

There was frustration and disappointment for title challenger Estelle Poret, stopping on lap 1.
