MICKAEL PORET MOVES INTO TOP SPOT IN EUROPEAN CONTINENTAL TITLE RACE

Tuesday, 28 July: Mickael Poret’s run of good form continues apace as he moves to the top of the European Continental Championship standings following his win double in Ski GP1 in Mirandela, Portugal.

After a lacklustre 2014 season hampered and cut short by injury the 28-year-old from Lyon has bounced back and re found the form that earned him the 2010 and 2013 World titles.

Already a heat winner this season and currently tied in second spot in the UIM-ABP World Championship standings behind his brother Jeremy, Poret has carried his form and momentum in his bid to win the European Continental Championship.

Despite being out qualified in pole by Marvin Martinez, he soon seized the advantage and went on to win heat 1 by 2.568s from Raphael Maurin and title rival Nacho Armillas.

Poret capitalised on starting in P1 in heat 2 to complete the win-double from Maurin and Axel Courtois, and with Armillas failing to go the distance retiring on lap 8 of 10, the result leapfrogged Poret to the top of the standings on 115 points to lead Armillas by nine, with Maurin in third.

But there was a better outcome for 22-year-old Armillas in Ski GP2 winning both heats to extend his overall points lead.
