NO SPANISH STROLL FOR ARMILLAS IN TITLE CHASE

Tuesday, 20 October: Spain’s Nacho Armillas is on collision course with his three biggest rivals at the season ending finale on the Khalid Lagoon in Sharjah on 19-20 December if he is to achieve his dream of winning the Ski GP1 UIM-ABP Aquabike World Championship.

Standing in his way is points’ leader and good chum Kevin Reiterer, behind him Mickael Poret who sneaked the European title from him by one point and defending world champion Jeremy Poret. Twenty points splitting the top four.

The 22-year-old from Barcelona and 2015 Ski GP2 European Champion is enjoying a return to form but must believe he can win it, all too often his successes seem to surprise him, which itself is surprising.

Armillas is a winner; he took his first heat win and GP title on the tour in China in 2012 rounding out the year as runner-up to Jeremy Poret. 2013 kicked off with a double heat win and another title in Italy and he was in the mix in the title chase when injury cut short his challenge mid-season. Last year he was on the comeback trail which is now paying dividends, winning in Qatar and taking second overall in China, proving he can mix it with and beat his three rivals.

The simple scenario is that Armillas must get his set up right his head right and needs to win both races and see what his rivals do and hope they take points out of each other. It will be close!!
