Sunday, 4 June, PORTO CESAREO (Italy): France’s Estelle Poret pulled off a dramatic last lap win in Moto 2 to take overall victory in the UIM-ABP Aquabike Grand Prix of Italy.
A sensational final Moto in the Ladies Ski Division produced two moments of high drama and was ultimately a tale of two laps.
Poret made a brilliant start from P2 to lead from Moto 1 winner Emma-Nellie Ortendahl, but fell on lap two to hand the lead to the defending world champion from Sweden.
Ortendahl then opened up a seemingly unassailable lead when she fell at the start of the penultimate lap allowing Poret to retake the lead and go on to take the win and overall victory.
Ortendahl recovered to finish in fourth and take second overall, with New Zealander Kylie Ellmers making up for a poor start to finish third and take the final podium slot, her best result on the UIM-ABP tour.
Jonna Borgstrom enjoyed one of her best results finishing second, Katriin Nilbe taking fifth with Sofie Borgstrom coming home in sixth.
