Sunday, 21 May, ZADAR (Croatia): The Ski division continues to throw up more surprises in the opening round of the UIM-ABP Aquabike European Continental Championship in Zadar.
In GP1 Raphael Maurin is enjoying the limelight and, after grabbing pole on Friday, went on to win both the opening two Motos, Stian Schjetlein getting the better of Nacho Armillas in Moto 1 with Slaven Ivancic an impressive fourth, but a major surprise saw defending champion Kevin Reiterer down in seventh, then along with Schjetlein dropping out in Moto 2.
Armillas kept himself in contention for overall victory with second in Moto 2 ahead of Daniel Svae Andersen.
In GP2 Reiterer and Armillas battled it out for first and second with the Austrian coming out comfortably on top in both Motos, Markus Lutsokert taking third in Moto 1, Daniel Svae Andersen in Moto 2.
There were more surprises in Ski Ladies with Sweden’s Jonna Borgstrom winning both Motos from Estonia’s Katrin Nilbe. Third spot was traded between France’s Virginie Morlaes and Latvia’s Krista Uzare.
The big surprise was red hot favourite and the defending champion Emma-Nellie Ortendahl finishing fourth in Moto 1 and retiring from the second.
Swiss rider Alec Enderli was the standout performer in Ski GP3 winning both heats, Portugal’s Goncalo Rodrigues and Hungary’s Martin Sumegi trading second and third spots.
Estonia’s Mattias Reinass and Norway’s Alexander Kalland took a win a piece in SKI GP3 Juniors, Vitorino Rodrigues and Diogo Barbosa finishing second and third in Moto 1, Karlo Brezni and Adnan Yassini in Moto 2. In Ski Veterans honours went to Giuseppe Dona and Markus Erlach.
