Saturday, December 30: Aquabike Promotion has been delighted with the interest shown from riders, old and new, for the 2024 UIM-ABP Aquabike World, European Continental and Endurance Championships that were announced recently.
Feedback to the ‘Become a 2024 Rider’ application form on www.aquabike.net has been staggering with riders keen to switch from other global racing disciplines to the UIM-ABP series following the unmitigated success of the recent Grand Prix of Lake Toba-Indonesia.
Next year’s calendar features a brand-new race at Qui Nhon in the Bing Dinh province of Vietnam in March, a return to Olbia for the Regione Sardegna Grand Prix of Italy in mid-June. An additional to-be-announced European round has been scheduled for the end of May.
Racers will then make a spectacular return to Lake Toba for the season’s finale in late November with favourable stories of incredible scenery, spectacular racing and warm hospitality attracting interest from a whole host of potential new competitors.
While a three-round summer season of European Continental events is still being finalised, endurance racers will also return to Lake Toba for the three races in Sumatra that will decide the World Championship, Once again, competitors will race in three Indonesian Regencies for the Karo, Dairi and Samosir Cups before the Circuit Pro finale takes centre stage on the volcanic lake at Balige to the south.
Riders and teams can now register for the forthcoming season via the link on www.aquabike.net. Amongst the drivers to show early interest in the 2024 calendar are Austrian racer Kevin Reiterer, Frenchman Jeremy Poret and the Belgian 2017 UIM World Champion Quinten Bossche. Front-running Portuguese Runabout GP1 racer Lino Araújo is also planning a spectacular return after recovering from injury.
Reiterer said: “I had never been to Sumatra before and it was a really nice welcoming from the people, who are so friendly. The whole organisation was great. The nature was really nice. It is a place we would never have travelled to except for racing. People really enjoyed the races and everyone enjoyed meeting the local people and taking pictures with everyone. Hopefully, we can bring more tourism into this area and push the economics of the region. I look forward to coming back next year.”
Further names for what promises to be a thrilling new season will be announced at the start of 2024. The World Championship season kicks off in Vietnam on March 22nd-24th and the Advance Program is now available on the website
