Friday, July 19: Current World Champion Roberto Mariani claimed victory in the opening Freestyle Moto on the Danube-Rába confluence in front of the Kossuth Bridge in Győr late on Friday evening.
The Italian is chasing European glory at the Grand Prix of Hungary and finished the opening Moto ahead of Hungary’s Maximilian Martha. Mariani was awarded 80 points by the judges and scored much heavier in terms of the variety and style of his on-water acrobatic performance.
Martha scored 19 points less than the Italian but three more than third-placed Massimo Accumolo. Portuguese airline pilot Paulo Nuñes was classified in fourth and Wolfgang Strasser was fifth.
Earlier in the evening, Szabolcs Szeles, Deputy Mayor of Győr, Nikoletta Pulai, Major of Győrzámoly, and Béla Czeller, President of the Hungarian Jet Sports Federation, attended the official opening ceremony along with Hungarian race officials and staff from Aquabike Promotion.
