Tuesday, November 12: Thirty-three riders from 14 nations will take part in the three-day UIM-ABP Aquabike Endurance World Championship, which starts tomorrow (Wednesday) with two Motos for the Karo Cup on spectacular Lake Toba on the Indonesian island of Sumatra.
Joining 24 international riders from France, Portugal. Sweden, New Zealand, Australia, Spain, Japan, Hungary, China, Italy, USA, Australia, Thailand and Cambodia for the three days of endurance action are nine Indonesian riders.
Lingga Kumara, Kanina Ramadhina, Makaio Wimylie, Hilman Kurniawan, Boanerges Ratag, Lim Lucky Limanjaya, Trinity Ratag, Sosie Yoko and Fikri Rajab will represent the host nation as the high-speed sport of aqua biking captures the local imagination in Sumatra and beyond.
The opening ceremony will take centre stage in Tongging from 11.00hrs (GMT +7) on Wednesday and this precedes the two 35-minute endurance races for the Karo Cup, starting at 11.30hrs and 14.00hrs, respectively. Riders will then return to Pangururan on the western shores of Samosir Island for the night halt.
The spectacular volcanic Lake Toba forms part of the Toba Caldera UNESCO Global Geopark and is one of five UNESCO global geoparks in Indonesia. It is one of Indonesia’s Super Priority Tourism Destinations (DPSP).
