Saturday, July 27: François Medori, Slobodan Sobic and Pierre-Marie Vincentelli extended their leads in the UIM-ABP European Aquabike Endurance Championship with Moto 3 wins in the GP1, GP2 and GP3 categories at the Grand Prix of Vichy on Saturday afternoon.
Medori said: “I make a good start from first place. It is easier than from the back. I try to put a good pace during 25 minutes and after I try to manage a little bit the jet ski to finish the two more Moto this evening and tomorrow. We try to stay in first position tomorrow night.”
Medori lined up on pole with a nine-point championship advantage over Alex Barret following the opening two Motos and the Frenchman made another strong start to storm away from Moto 1 winner Lino Araújo. He led by 22.28 seconds after five laps as the Portuguese pulled well clear of third-placed Frenchman Vincent Thomas, Spaniard Ruben Jimenez Riquelme and Johan Johansson of Sweden. Sobic was running ahead of Michele Cadei and Sammy Maysonnave in GP2 and Vincentelli was out on his own in GP3.
Riquelme overtook Thomas to gain third but Medori was relentless and continued to pull clear of Araújo. He led by 29.38 seconds into lap 11 and eventually reached the finish with a massive lap advantage to increase his GP1 series lead. Araújo picked up 22 points for second place and Riquelme rounded off the podium places. Johansson, Thomas and Barret finished fourth, fifth and sixth.
Sobic got the better of Cadei and Maysonnave to win his third successive GP2 Moto and Vincentelli prevailed in GP3.
