Saturday, November 16: Thousands of Indonesian spectators in the Pangururan area on Lake Toba were treated to a bonanza of spectacular on-water action after nightfall on Saturday with the opening Freestyle Moto and the Parallel Slalom competition.
Riders who had earlier qualified in the Ski Ladies GP1, Ski Division GP1 and Runabout GP1 categories took centre stage on a slalom course on the world’s largest volcanic lake.
Four artists on the water then entertained the crowds with their sensational programme of fountains, somersaults, back flips and spins in front of a panel of judges. They determined that pole sitter Rashid Al-Mulla had done enough to claim the maximum 25 championship points on his Team Abu Dhabi-backed ski by just one point on the judges’ cards
Defending World Champion Roberto Mariani earned second place from Morocco’s Yassine Fadli and Portugal’s Paulo Nuñes, who tied on 49 points apiece according to the judges.
