Saturday, September 6: The French duo of François Medori and Steve Sarnin claimed the spoils in the third of the Endurance GP1 and GP2 Motos at the Grand Prix of Vichy, France on Saturday afternoon.
A third successive win for Medori puts the Corsican pharmacist in a commanding position in his bid to win the 2025 UIM-ABP European Endurance GP1 Championship on the Allier River. He will take a lead of 13 points over Cadei into the final two Motos on Sunday.
The outcome of the Endurance GP2 Championship is much closer. A win for Sarnin, despite a five-point penalty for a turn buoy infringement, and a retirement for Domantas Vaznys has given Giraldo Matthias a lead of 10 points heading into tomorrow’s finale. Jean-Baptiste Baldassari is second, one point in front of Sarnin.
With two wins already in his belt, but little time to recover physically after a fraught opening Runabout GP1 Moto, Medori managed to stay out in front of his Endurance GP1 rivals at the start of the third Endurance Moto. He was 5.48 seconds ahead of Spaniard Ruben Jimenez Riquelme after three laps with Michelle Cadei holding third ahead of Pierre-Marie Matelli.
Steve Sarnin made a strong start in Endurance GP2 to lead from Giraldo Matthias, Croatian Luca Vecchiori and Vaznys, but the Lithuanian dropped out of contention after seven laps of the Moto.
Medori held on to seal victory in GP1 from Cadei, Matelli and Emanuele Masala after Jimenez Riquelme slipped out of contention 13 laps into the 24-lap Moto. Anderson Gouveia Dos Santos also withdrew from the GP1 contest after 13 laps. Jimenez Riquelme was also penalised five points for missing turn buoys on the course.
Sarnin confirmed GP2 success from Matthias, Baldassari, Vecchiori and Carlos García but the Frenchman incurred a five-point penalty for missing a turn buoy on the race course.
