Wednesday, June 18: Officials in Portugal are working with Aquabike Promotion to put the finishing touches to the Grand Prix of Portugal, which hosts the second round of the UIM-ABP Aquabike European Continental Championship on July 4th-6th.
A massive entry flocked to Poland for the season’s opener at the start of June and the FPM is hopeful that a similar number of riders across the numerous racing categories will head to the town of Mira in Portugal’s central coastal region for the second race meeting in the season’s four-strong calendar.
The weekend’s timetable kicks off with registration and technical scrutineering on Thursday, July 3rd before the official opening ceremony takes centre stage in the evening.
Friday morning’s action features free practice and qualifying sessions in the Ski GP3, Runabout GP4, Ski GP4, Runabout GP4 Ladies, Ski Juniors GP3.2 and 3.3 and Runabout GP4 Junior sections. Further practice and qualifying follows in the afternoon for the Ski GP2, Runabout GP2, Ski Ladies GP1, Ski GP1 and Runabout GP1 classes and these precede the first three Motos and Freestyle pole position.
A hectic Saturday morning sees an additional seven Motos before Moto 1s are completed in the afternoon, in addition to a number of Moto 2s.
Sunday morning sees the completion of the second Motos for Runabout GP2, Ski Ladies GP1, Ski GP1 and Runabout GP1 and four of the third Motos for the minor classes. Racing concludes on Sunday afternoon with the remaining eight Moto 3s and the second of the Freestyle showdowns.
The French trio of Jérémy Perez, Mickael Poret and Jessica Chavanne and Italy’s Roberto Mariani lead the flagship four categories after the opening round in Poland.
Mattias Reinass, Csongor Jászai, Vaznys Domantas, Juliusz Roman, Leo Kete, Adam Wasilewski, Nikola Dryjakova, Rihard Leinsalu and Mathis Mezière top the standings in the other classes.
