Thursday, July 16 -  More than 150 riders representing 28 nations are registered for this year’s Grand Prix of Hungary in Gyor. The weekend features both the latest round of the UIM Aquabike European Continental Championship, as well as the year’s standalone UIM Aquabike Junior World Championship.

Ahead of the start of on-water action, the official press conference brought together representatives of the organising committee, international motorsport officials, local government leaders and the Hungarian Jet-Ski Federation. 

Among those present was Gábor Granát, Mayor of Gyorzamoly, who underlined the pride of the community in welcoming the Championship for the third time: “We are proud to showcase the unique beauty of the Szigetköz region through a world-class sporting event.”

Also present was Raimondo di San Germano,  General Manager Aquabike Promotion, who to the great pleasure of those assembled shared that the Hungarian round has become one of the competitors' favourite destinations on the UIM Aquabike calendar. "Following the opening round in Portugal, the Championship now arrives in Hungary before continuing to France,” he added. “However, only Gyor hosts both the European Championship and the Junior World Championship at the same venue and at the same time. That makes this event truly exceptional."

The entry list for the race includes all those who triumphed in this season’s opening European Championship round in Mira who will be keen to maintain their winning momentum, as well all of the current GP1 Aquabike European Champions: Jeremy Perez, Mickael Poret, Jessica Chavanne, and Roberto Mariani. Alongside these decorated European riders, competitors from around the world have travelled to race in Gyor, heralding from nations such as USA, Australia, Japan, Thailand and Saudi Arabia, underlining the truly global status of the event.

Racing begins tomorrow (Friday, July 17) with free practice and qualifying taking place for all 14 categories, and the first Moto 1 races of the Grand Prix of Hungary taking place from 4.30pm local time.
